Frosty Drink Recipes for your Pawleys Island Vacation

Whether you’re lounging by the pool or on your balcony overlooking the beach, a frosty tropical beverage is always a welcome addition to your Pawleys Island vacation. There are so many different options out there to enjoy, from light and fizzy spritzers to sweet, decadent frozen concoctions. Here are a few of our favorite recipes to try out on your next South Strand vacation.

Watermelon Lemonade Slushie

This delicious blend of sweet and sour is sure to be a hit! Ingredients consist of 4 cups of cubed watermelon (preferably local from one of the Grand Strand’s various farmers markets), a half cup of sugar, 2 cups of chopped fresh basil and juice from 3 lemons. Freeze the cubed watermelon for around 2 hours, and while that’s chilling make a simple syrup by heating up the sugar with a half cup of water over medium heat in a saucepan, tossing in the basil after letting the syrup heat for around 5 minutes. After that cools and the watermelon is frozen, add half of the watermelon to a blender. Strain the basil from the syrup and pour over the watermelon, then add the lemon juice and the rest of the watermelon. Blend until smooth for a fruity, frigid delight!

Pool Drinks

Sweet Tea Mojito

Sweet tea is an absolute staple in the south, and a mojito is one of the most refreshing drinks known to man. Combine the two and you have absolute bliss! First, steep 4 bags of black tea, 2 handfuls of fresh mint and 1-2 cups of sugar (depending on your desired level of sweetness) over 3 cups of water. After 5 minutes, things should be nicely blended, and you can strain into a pitcher. Add 1-½ cups of light rum, juice of 3 limes, 1 cup of cold water and another handful of fresh mint. Stir together, smashing the mint against the inside of the pitcher to release the flavor. Serve over ice with mint as a garnish.
