Get Outside And Enjoy Nature in the New Year at Huntington Beach State Park

Litchfield Beach   |   08 Nov 2015

We believe South Carolina is simply one of the most beautiful places on earth. From our miles and miles of white sand beaches to the unique habitats of the lowcountry and beyond, we have the good fortune to live—or vacation—in one seriously beautiful place. And our state parks are wonderful places to explore the natural beauty of this area.

Less than three miles from Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort, the natural wonders of Huntington Beach State Park offer up amazing opportunities to explore, relax and play. In addition to the chance to simply relax on the beach or explore the historic home Atalaya, there’s there are also plenty of educational programs offered at Huntington that are wonderful for all ages. Here are two great programs that are coming up in the new year:

First Day Hike – Sandpiper Pond and Beach Explorations
If you’re resolving to be more active in 2014, this is the perfect way to start the year off on the right foot: Join a ranger at Huntington Beach State Park for a beach walk and short hike along the Sandpiper Pond Trail. The group will meet at the North Beach/jetty parking lot and walk a route along the freshwater marsh and then into the maritime forest. The walk will even include a stopover at the Nature Center, where there are exhibits with live animals, before heading back along the beach. If you attend, you’re encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, as well as to bring water, binoculars and a bag to carry any beach treasures you might discover along the way.

Where: Huntington Beach State Park, North Beach Parking Lot
When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Jan. 1, 2014
Cost: Free with park admission

Coastal Kayaking
These are super fun beginner tours of the beautiful salt marsh. The two-hour, guided tours meet at the Education Center, then caravan to Oyster Landing. Participants do need to reserve a spot at the Education Center (843-235-8755) by 4 p.m. the Sunday prior to the program. Attendees under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Where: Meet at the Education Center
When: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Mondays March 1, 2014-Oct. 31, 2014
