When you stay at Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort, you’ve got plenty of options for how to spend your time. You can lounge at the beach or one of our pools, you can take advantage of preferred tee times at some of the best golf courses in the region, you can enjoy outstanding dining at Websters Lowcountry Grill or grab some Starbucks right onsite—and now you can also get surfing lessons from Surf the Earth, located right here at the resort!
Surf the Earth, which has two other locations on the south Strand, has just opened a retail location overlooking the indoor pool at on the second floor of the Bridgewater complex.
“We’re offering weekly surf camps, private surf lessons, and we’ll also be doing on-beach rentals, surf boards, paddleboards and kayaks,” said Jamie Vanderlip, a store manager at Surf the Earth.
The surf camps run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and cost $350 for the week or $75 to drop in for one day.
“We provide all the equipment, snacks, water and a shelter so we can take breaks from the sun. We teach the kids ocean safety, ocean respect, taking care of the beach, and they get a good understanding of surf fundamentals. Usually by halfway through the camp, most of these kids are surfing—they’re riding waves in, and by the week they’re often surfing by themselves,” he said. “It’s great for parents, too. They can relax and enjoy their coffee, spend some time together and know that their kids are doing something that’s both healthy and fun.”
The beaches in the Litchfield area are especially well-suited to beginning and intermediate surfers, as the surf conditions are forgiving and relatively calm. The instructors at Surf the Earth are CPR certified and focus on surfing fundamentals and water safety. Summer Surf Camps are held throughout the summer, and private and group lessons are also available, with prices beginning at $50 per person. The prerequisites, according to Surf the Earth, are to be able to swim and to be “ready to have the time of your life!”
Surf the Earth also offers tours, including sunset and full moon guided kayak tours through the unique salt marsh areas of Pawleys Island and Litchfield, paddleboard tours at Huntington Beach State Park, Hobcaw kayak tours and even paddleboard yoga tours. Guests at Litchfield resort will be able to sign up for tours, but will need to travel to the launch point for these leisurely, naturalist-guided paddles.
So get ready for another great summer at Litchfield Beach & Golf resort, where the surf is most definitely up!
