Willbrook Plantation Ranked Among America's Top 50 Golf Courses for Women

March 3, 2010, Myrtle Beach, S.C – Willbrook Plantation Golf Club located in Pawleys Island was recently ranked 31st by Golf Digest as one of “America’s Top 50 Courses for Women.” The rankings appear in the March issue of the magazine. Willbrook Plantation was the only Myrtle Beach area golf course listed among the results.

Several criteria were used in determining the top 100 including female-friendly design, amenities, courteous staff, programs offered, and an atmosphere that appeals to women. The list was compiled using criteria established by editors of the magazine as well as the nominations and evaluations of more than 100 female golf course raters.

Remodeled in 2006, Willbrook Plantation completed a renovation project that saw the size of all greens enlarged by 15 percent, Champion Bermuda grass planted, bunkers reshaped to their original size and extensive landscaping added to enhance the golfers’ overall experience on the golf course.

“This designation by Golf Digest is certainly something we greatly value,” said Jim Woodring, vice president of golf operations and marketing of the Myrtle Beach National Company. “We have worked at making Willbrook Plantation a course that has great esthetic beauty, and it is female-friendly because it already had such a great following in the south by female players. This simply confirms that this course is playable for all skill levels.”

A beautiful 18-hole layout situated on the site of two 19th century plantations twenty minutes south of Myrtle Beach in the historic Litchfield-Pawleys Island area, Willbrook Plantation Golf Club is a course that noted architect Dan Maples has often called “one of my best.” Carved from the site of two Carolina rice plantations, Willbrook winds its way amid a centuries-old oak forest where nature abounds.
