Upcoming Events at Brookgreen Gardens

If you haven’t ever experienced the beauty of Brookgreen Gardens, it is definitely something to add to your itinerary.  Here’s a look at some of the great things coming to Brookgreen in the approaching months:
 

Nights of a Thousand Candles, December 5-7, 12-14, and 19-21, 2013
We highly recommend this event to get you in the holiday spirit.  Grab some hot chocolate and take a stroll through the beautiful gardens that are illuminated with thousands of lights and hand-lit candles, while listening to hand-bells and carolers.
 

New Year’s Eve ‘Garden by Candlelight’ Pre-Party, December 31, 2013
Start your New Year’s celebration with candles, holiday lights, and live music in the sculpture garden.  The event will take place from 6 – 9 p.m., leaving plenty of time to make it to another New Year’s party after, or to your couch to snuggle up and watch the ball drop on TV.
 

The Oaks Plantation History and Nature TrailJanuary 1 – March 7, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday
This walking trail takes you through the history of the Oaks Plantation and archaeological sites, including the enslaved African village, plantation owner’s house and more.
 

Silent CitiesJanuary 2 – March 6, Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday
The Silent Cities excursion takes you through the graveyards of former slaves and plantation owners, known as the Silent Cities.  Learn about European and African historical burial customs, while walking through the cemeteries.  This tour is sure to fill up so reservations are recommended. 
 

“Equine Spirit: The Horse in American Art”, January 25 – April 20
Discover the history of art based on horses in America with this exhibit that showcases work from Anna Hyatt Huntington, Charlotte Dunwiddie, Marilyn Newmark, and others.  Admission is free with garden admission, so be sure to check it out while you’re at Brookgreen.
