Tennis at Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort

They come for the beach, the sea air and the relaxing pools. But many of our guests also come because they love a good workout in the sunshine, whether that’s a round of seaside golf or the opportunity to play tennis either at one of the resort’s seven first-come, first-served hard courts or at one of the best racquet clubs in the region, the Litchfield Racquet Club.

The Racquet Club is located about a mile from the lodging areas of the resort, but it’s worth the trek to take advantage of the 17 clay Har-Tru courts, three of which are lighted for night play. The daily fee to play on the courts is $12. Juniors—those 17 and younger—play free Fridays through Sundays.

The racquet club offers a pro shop; equipment rental (rentals can be used on or off the racquet club property), analysis and repair; several different clinics every week and well an adult tennis school that’s available for any level for either three or four days of instruction, three hours per day. In order to arrange a tennis school, guests are asked to call in advance. As a note, the minimum is three players, maximum is 12. If you’re interested in a clinic instead of a school, inquire about the schedule once you have your travel dates, as it varies from week to week.

Kristen Prunier, the director of tennis at Litchfield, said most classes are taught by Joe Oyco, the staff professional. Oyco played tennis for the University of West Virginia.

“Jo’s just fantastic,” said Prunier. “He’s extremely knowledgeable, he stays current with stroke production trends and he’s very good.”
