Pawleys Island Festival of Music Brings World Class Art and Culture to the Grand Strand

For two weeks, the Grand Strand is a hub of top-notch arts and entertainment in the southeast, all thanks to the Pawleys Island Festival of Music, which celebrates its 23rd season this year. The event will take place Sept. 19 through Oct. 12, and will include performances by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., originally of The 5th Dimension, as well as a performance by Elise Testone, at top-ten finisher on the 11th season of American Idol.

The festival kickoff will be held at Tommy Bahama at The Market Common on Sept. 19 with a fundraiser Wearable Art Luncheon, a strolling fashion show that will feature jewelry from an array of local artists. Tickets to the luncheon are $30.

A free family event, Chalk Under the Oaks, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Huntington Beach State Park. Inspired by the Italian tradition of street painting, artists of all ages and levels will create chalk works of art on Saturday, and the stunning works of art will be available for viewing on Sunday, provided the weather cooperates! If you’re interested in participating as an artist, an application is due by Sept. 1.

Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., who’ve earned seven Grammy Awards, will perform at The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. American pianist Elile Pandolfi, known for his lively performances of popular standards and Broadway hits, will perform with guest vocalist Dana Russell at the club at 7 p.m. Oct. 9. The operatic pop quartet Vivace, based out of Vancouver, B.C., will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 10; Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues will perform Friday, Oct. 11; and The Movin’ Out Band from the original Billy Joel musical “Movin’ Out” will perform Saturday, Oct. 12. Tickets for the musical performances range from $25-$75, and an All-Access VIP Pass, which includes tickets to all of the musical events is $275.

The event also includes a fundraiser wine gala at The Reserve Club, where you can taste nearly 70 different wines as well as hors d’oeuvres, dessert from Pawleys Island Bakery and a silent auction.
