Celebrating the Fourth of July on the South Strand

Litchfield Beach   |   11 May 2016

Saturday, July 2

* 33rd Annual Murrells Inlet Fourth of July Boat Parade: You've seen your share of parades on dry land, but this unique floating procession is unlike any other. Dozens of vessels, ranging from luxury yachts to small fishing boats, get decked out in their most patriotic colors and line up for a cruise through Murrells Inlet. Visitors line the banks and cheer as the flotilla makes its way around the inlet and passengers wave to bystanders. The parade starts at Garden City Point at 5 p.m. and can be viewed from the Veterans Pier, Crazy Sister Marina and boat ramps along the waterfront. The boats dock at the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk for a night of live music and festivities, capped by a fireworks show.

Monday, July 4

* 50th Annual Pawleys Island Fourth of July Parade: The small town of Pawleys Island puts on a big-time parade through the streets of the resort village’s heart. Makeshift floats made by locals are often powered by such bizarre vehicles as golf carts or connected to boat trailers. The parade starts and ends on Myrtle Avenue, and crowds line the sidewalks to see the procession, wave to the parade participants, and catch candy and other goodies that are tossed from the procession. The event runs from 11 a.m. to noon.

* Surfside Beach Fourth of July Celebration: Visit the small beach town of Surfside Beach and enjoy a fun Fourth of July celebration on the oceanfront. Held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., the event starts with live music and festivities at the Surfside Beach Pier, followed by a free fireworks show over the Atlantic Ocean. A free variety show will be presented by the Celebration Music Theatre, and there will be games and inflatable play equipment for the kids. Guests should bring beach blankets or lawn chairs to see the pyrotechnics display.

* Independence Day 8K: Hit the ground running for the Fourth of July at this road race through the Market Common complex. Runners take the starting line at Valor Park and proceed through the business district of shops and restaurants. The course continues through Grand Park and other sections of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, adding a patriotic element to the road race. There's also a 5K course for those who prefer a shorter distance, and a post-race party will be held at Valor Park with food, music, beer and camaraderie.

* 20th Annual Fourth of July Concert: Experience a taste of Independence Day the Old South way at the Kaminski House Museum in Georgetown. Featuring a performance by the Indigo Choral Society and other local performers, this afternoon concert allows visitors to stretch out on the lawn under shady live oak trees and enjoy great music and a color guard presentation. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and their own food and drinks. The show runs from 4 to 7 p.m. and is held just a short drive away from Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort.

No matter how you spend the day celebrating the Fourth of July, be sure to end it with a relaxing evening at Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort.
